The National Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Henry Nana Boakye, has declared that “the fight for democracy is not over; it has just begun.” He made the statement during a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, December 9, 2025.
Addressing journalists, Mr. Boakye voiced strong concerns over what he described as growing threats to Ghana’s constitutional order. He reaffirmed the NPP’s unwavering commitment to peace, constitutionalism, and responsible political engagement, while cautioning that such commitment should not be mistaken for inaction.
“We reject violence, but commitment does not mean dormancy. Constitutionalism does not mean accepting lawlessness. The rule of law applies to all — government, judges, and even the president,” he stated.
Mr. Boakye accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of attempts at “institutional capture,” warning that the NPP would not hesitate to defend democratic principles if such actions persist.
“Our patience has limits. If the NDC continues on this path, they will encounter an NPP ready to defend democracy with every lawful tool at our disposal,” he cautioned.
He also criticized a recent Supreme Court ruling, describing it as “fundamentally and catastrophically flawed,” arguing that it undermined electoral justice and rewarded impunity.
“These are not minor errors. These are defects that strike at the heart of electoral justice,” he emphasized.
Calling on citizens to remain attentive, he encouraged Ghanaians to be mindful of developments he believes could influence the country’s democratic trajectory.
“People of Ghana, stay vigilant. Democracy is under severe threat. Stand up. Do not let this country slip back into authoritarian rule,” he urged.
Mr. Boakye also appealed to NPP members and supporters to maintain calm and remain committed to the party’s objectives.
“Stay strong, stay peaceful, stay ready.”
