Former Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr Henry Kwabena Kokofu, has called for a complete overhaul of the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) leadership.

According to him, the country cannot continue to tolerate the kind of leadership currently being portrayed by the party.

“There must be a complete cleanup; we cannot continue to tolerate this kind of leadership,” he said.

Speaking on GBC’s Focus on September 3, 2025, Dr Kokofu stressed that the NPP executives must be changed. “The message from the grassroots is clear: this crop of party executives must be changed,” he added, insisting it was time for renewal.

He believes the party needs fresh leadership to revitalize its base and secure victory in future elections.

“We must heal the NPP and restore unity as we prepare for the 2028 elections,” he stated.

His remarks follow the party’s defeat in the just-ended Akwatia by-election, where the NPP’s Solomon Asumadu lost to the NDC’s Bernard Bediako Baidoo.

Dr Kotofu argued that the outcome exposed weaknesses in the party’s structures.
“Our organisational machinery was weak, and our structures poorly grounded—and that was clearly reflected in the Akwatia outcome,” he said.

Similarly, the Executive Director of the African Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, Mr Emmanuel Kotin, backed the call for change.

“If the NPP secures the right leadership, many of those who left the party will return,” he noted.
