A total of 211,849 delegates of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) are voting on Saturday, January 31, 2026, in a nationwide presidential primary to elect the party’s flagbearer ahead of the next general election.

The exercise is being conducted simultaneously at 333 polling centres across the country and will determine who leads the governing party into the upcoming national polls.

Five aspirants are contesting the party’s top position. They are former Vice President and 2024 presidential candidate Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia; former Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyapong; former Minister of Education Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum; former Minister of Food and Agriculture Dr. Bryan Acheampong; and former General Secretary of the party Kwabena Agyepong.

Party officials, working in collaboration with the Electoral Commission (EC), say all logistical and administrative arrangements have been finalised to ensure a smooth, transparent and credible process. The EC, together with party-appointed agents, is supervising voting at all polling centres nationwide.

Delegates eligible to vote are drawn from various levels of the party’s structure, including national, regional, constituency and polling station executives, as well as other accredited party representatives.

To ensure a peaceful and orderly process, uniformed security personnel have been deployed across the country to maintain law and order at the polling centres.

The leadership of the NPP has appealed to delegates to conduct themselves responsibly and to accept the outcome of the polls, stressing that party unity after the contest will be critical as preparations begin for the general election.

Voting commenced at 7:00 a.m. and is expected to close at 2:00 p.m., after which counting and collation will begin. Results are expected to be announced later today.
