Deputy National Youth Organizer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Isaac Jay Hyde, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of actions and inactions that contributed to the death of the late Akwatia Member of Parliament, Ernest Yaw Kumi.
Speaking on GTV’s Current Agenda on August 30, 2025, he said the NDC’s conduct after the 2020 elections created unnecessary hostility.
“When you look at the situation, you cannot pretend. Their actions and inactions contributed to the unfortunate death of the MP. At one point, he was even being chased in Parliament.”
Mr. Hyde insisted that the NPP’s record in Akwatia speaks for itself.
“The NPP’s presentation and representation have brought development to Akwatia. Sometimes when the NDC is taking certain directions, they may not see it but if you read between the lines, you see the character of the NDC. Their approach has only brought tension,” he posited
The by-election, scheduled for Tuesday, has become not only a test of strength between the NPP and NDC, but also a point of contention over responsibility for the late MP’s passing.
