Law lecturer at UPSA Law School and a member of the NPP Legal Directorate, Ishaq Ibrahim, has said that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) is rushing through its judgments, potentially damaging individuals’ reputations.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Agenda on Saturday, July 19, 2025, Ibrahim emphasized the importance of protecting individuals’ rights and reputations during investigations.
“Individual reputation is very, very important. The way we conduct our investigations and how we deal with the whole matter… I am sure that the way he’s rushing, he is bound to get this wrong,” Ibrahim said.
He cited the example of a previous case involving Cecilia Dapaah, noting how the court eventually dismissed it despite initial publicity.
“You can see what happened with Cecilia’s issues. With all the fanfare and announcements, it all ended with the court throwing the case out,” he stated.
The law lecturer stressed that the OSP should afford individuals accused of corruption the opportunity to clear their names.
“We should afford them every opportunity possible to clear their names. And if they are truly guilty, why not? It’s part of his mandate to fight corruption,” Ibrahim added.
While he welcomed the OSP’s first conviction, he urged caution in the handling of individual rights.
“He has to be very careful with individuals’ rights… I hope they will have their day in court to prove their innocence. And if they are truly innocent, the court system should work in such a way that they will be exonerated and sent home,” he concluded.
