Daniel Ofosu-Appiah from the Volta Region has petitioned President John Mahama to remove Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), along with her deputies, citing constitutional violations and incompetence.
The petition, submitted on January 27, 2025, alleges that their actions have eroded public trust in the electoral process and references breaches of Articles 23, 42, and 296 of the 1992 Constitution.
A significant point raised is the exclusion of residents from Santrokofi, Akpafu, Likpe, and Lolobi (SALL) from the 2020 parliamentary elections, which the petitioner argues was unconstitutional. Concerns about the EC’s handling of election results and perceived bias among its officials further support his claims.
Ofosu-Appiah urges the President to invoke Article 146 of the Constitution to initiate removal proceedings, emphasizing that restoring public confidence in the electoral process is essential. An official response from the presidency is pending.
