The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin has bemoaned the situation where some staff of the parliamentary service do virtually no work, yet receive salaries at the end of the month.

The Speaker said this happens because of poor supervision from duty bearers.

Mr. Bagbin made the comment at the Inaugural meeting of the 8th Parliamentary Service Board. He promised to lead efforts to bring greater discipline into the Service.

The Speaker also commended the President for committing to the processes which will see to the handing over of the land on which parliament sits. He said currently parliament has no control over the land and therefore has no say about who comes in and out of Parliament because the land is controlled from the Office of the Chief of Staff.

Both the Majority and Minority Leaders spoke about the deficiencies in Parliament’s performance of its oversight and legislative drafting duties.
