The Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban S.K. Bagbin, has lauded the KGL Group for its outstanding Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives at the official launch of the 2nd Edition of the Democracy Cup. The event, held under the auspices of the Parliament of Ghana, saw the wholly Ghanaian-owned conglomerate receive special recognition for its commitment to national unity, social development, and public-private partnerships.

At the heart of the praise was KGL Group’s title sponsorship of the Democracy Cup — a flagship sports development initiative by Parliament designed to promote peace, unity, and civic engagement nationwide.

Speaking at the ceremony, Rt. Hon. Bagbin noted that while the maiden edition of the Democracy Cup in 2024 lacked the financial muscle to make a strong national impact, the second edition promises to be a transformational experience thanks to the full backing of KGL Group and its Executive Chairman, Mr. Alex Dadey.

“The sponsorship by KGL Group is not just a financial commitment. It’s a demonstration of what corporate Ghana can do when driven by purpose. Their CSR engagement goes far beyond charity — it touches on economic growth, education, health, environment, and youth development,” the Speaker emphasized.

He further called on other businesses to follow KGL’s example by forming strategic partnerships with state institutions to accelerate Ghana’s development agenda.

Over the past five years, the KGL Foundation — the CSR arm of the Group — has spearheaded a number of large-scale philanthropic projects across the country. These include:
• Construction of an ultra-modern mental health facility in Kumasi in collaboration with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.
• Rehabilitation of the Accra Psychiatric Hospital.
• Development of a comprehensive Mental Health Index (MHI) for Ghana.
• Sponsorship of national sports initiatives, including support for the Ghana Football Association, the Black Stars, and the U-17 league.
• Annual sponsorship of the Millennium Marathon.
• Provision of medical incubators to hospitals nationwide.

In line with Section 2(3) of the National Lotto Act, 2006 (Act 722), KGL Group has consistently allocated a portion of its profits to corporate social interventions. The Group has also contributed millions annually to the National Consolidated Fund through the National Lottery Authority (NLA) and the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) — all at no cost or financial risk to the state.

Mr. Alex Dadey, speaking at the event, reaffirmed KGL Group’s long-term commitment to partnering with government and public institutions in shaping Ghana’s future.

“Public-Private Partnerships must be models of sustainability and not burdens on the state. Our goal is to build, support and scale initiatives that contribute meaningfully to Ghana’s development,” Mr. Dadey stated.

Members of Parliament in attendance applauded the KGL Foundation’s impact, describing it as a benchmark for responsible corporate citizenship in Ghana.

With the 2nd Edition of the Democracy Cup set to draw national attention, the collaboration between KGL Group and Parliament marks a powerful synergy between corporate purpose and public service — a model many hope to see replicated across sectors.
