Former Vice President of Ghana and 2024 New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has addressed party delegates at the NPP National Delegates Conference held at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Accra on Saturday, July 19, 2025.
As he vies to be named the party’s flagbearer for the 2028 general election, Dr Bawumia used the platform to emphasize the importance of unity within the party as it prepares for the upcoming elections.
In his speech, Dr Bawumia highlighted the danger of tribalism and religious bigotry, warning that such divisions could threaten the party’s future.
“If we are fractured and at each other’s throats, none of us can cross over and lead us to fulfil this party’s purpose. Let me say that tribalism and religious bigotry, from whichever quarters it emanates, pose an existential threat and should have no place in the New Patriotic Party,” he asserted, urging party members to focus on cohesion instead of divisions.
Dr Bawumia further addressed the broader challenges facing Ghana, encouraging consistency in efforts to overcome these issues. He reminded party faithful of the periods of progress under former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, describing their leadership as marked by “monumental and transformational achievements.”
“We must also be consistent in the pursuance of our efforts to address not just the challenges within, but more importantly, the challenges that bedevil our motherland,” Dr Bawumia said, underscoring the need for sustained development and governance improvements.
