President John Dramani Mahama, has presided over a swearing-in ceremony for the newly appointed military service commanders, officially inducting them as members of the Armed Forces Council.

The event held on Friday, March 25, 2025 at the Ministry of Defence, preceded a strategic Council meeting focused on matters such as promotions and the retooling of the Ghana Armed Forces.

The newly sworn-in commanders are:

  • Major General William Agyapong, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS)
  • Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, Chief of Army Staff (COAS)
  • Rear Admiral Godwin Livinus Bessing, Chief of Naval Staff (CNS)
  • Air Vice Marshal Eric Agyen-Frempong, Chief of Air Staff (CAS)

The swearing-in ceremony was attended by senior government and military officials, including: Minister for Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah Minister for the Interior, Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka and Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa

Also present were Dr. Callistus Mahama, Secretary to the President, and Joyce Bawah Mogtari, Presidential Advisor and Special Aide to the President.

The event underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening national security and enhancing the operational capabilities of the Armed Forces.
