President John Dramani Mahama has urged road contractors working across the country to prioritize smooth traffic flow and proper site management as they undertake road construction projects.
Speaking during an inspection of the Ofankor–Nsawam road project on Wednesday, September 3, 2025, the President stressed that while road works are essential, they must not come at the cost of severe disruption to motorists and residents.
“We know you have work to do, but one of your duties is to manage the site so that your work does not impede traffic. Even while working, you must create conditions that allow traffic to flow,” he said.
President Mahama expressed satisfaction with recent improvements in traffic flow along the project site but reminded contractors of their obligation to keep the road motorable during construction.

He also reinforced government’s commitment to supporting the sector, noting that adequate resources have been provided to contractors under the Big Push programme. In return, he charged them to deliver quality and timely work.
“The government commits to pay you well, you too must commit to move faster on the road and also use quality materials,” the President emphasized.
The Ofankor–Nsawam project, a key stretch of the Accra–Kumasi highway, has faced delays in recent years due to financial and contractual challenges. With government having settled outstanding payments to contractors, works have resumed with assurances that the project will be completed by the second quarter of 2026.
