The Public Utility Workers Union, PUWU, is calling for the total shutdown of the Teshie desalination plant.

The Union says the plant is causing financial stress on the company. Speaking to Radio Ghana, the General Secretary of the PUWU, Michael Adumatta Nyantakyi said there might be shortage of water if care is not taken.

Mr. Nyantakyi said they have petitioned government against the continuous operation of the desalination plant and the proposed new agreement between Ghana Water Company Limited and AVH.
