The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) has issued a strong public notice distancing itself from individuals and groups fraudulently posing as agents or representatives of the Secretariat.
According to the Programme, it has come to its attention that certain persons are misleading miners and other stakeholders by falsely claiming to act on behalf of rCOMSDEP. These imposters are reportedly extorting money under the pretext of facilitating access to mineralised areas for responsible cooperative mining.
rCOMSDEP has described these activities as criminal conduct under the laws of the Republic of Ghana.
No Authorized Agents or Coordinators
In a statement signed by the National Coordinator, Ama Mawusi Mawuenyefia, the Secretariat categorically stated that it does not operate through agents, representatives, or intermediaries in any region or district across Ghana.
The Programme emphasized the following:
• No individual or group has been authorized to collect payments, fees, or levies on behalf of rCOMSDEP.
• No appointments have been made for positions such as “Regional Coordinator,” “District Coordinator,” or any similar designation.
• Any person presenting themselves under such titles is an imposter acting without mandate.
Public Advised to Exercise Caution
The Secretariat has urged the public, especially miners and stakeholders in the extractive sector, to refrain from engaging with these self-appointed agents.
It warned that any individual or group that chooses to transact with such imposters does so at their own risk. rCOMSDEP stated clearly that it will not be liable for any losses, damages, or consequences resulting from dealings with unauthorized persons.
Legal Action Imminent
The Programme further served notice that anyone found engaging in these illegal activities will be arrested and prosecuted to face the full rigours of the law.
