World number one, Aryna Sabalenka has advanced to the Madrid Open final after a commanding straight-sets victory over Elina Svitolina. The top seed showcased her strength on the court by defeating the Ukrainian player 6-3, 7-5 in Thursday’s semifinal, setting up a highly anticipated showdown with world number four Coco Gauff.
Sabalenka who was the runner-up to Iga Swiatek last year, continues her impressive run at the Madrid Open. This marks her fourth appearance in the tournament’s final, having previously won the title in 2021 and 2023. Her consistent performance highlights her dominance on clay, especially in this event where she now boasts a 22-4 record.
Svitolina, who entered the match unbeaten in nine clay-court matches this season, was unable to extend her perfect streak. Her impressive run ended in just over 90 minutes of play as Sabalenka’s powerful game overwhelmed her opponent. Sabalenka sealed her victory by breaking Svitolina’s serve with a precise backhand, which the Ukrainian could only send out of bounds.
The match demonstrated Sabalenka’s resilience and skill, securing her spot in Saturday’s final. Her ability to perform under pressure was evident, especially when closing out the second set with a crucial break.
Looking ahead, Sabalenka will face Coco Gauff in a blockbuster final. Gauff’s journey to the final has also been remarkable, and the encounter is expected to be a thrilling clash of two of the sport’s top talents.
