The mobile phone contracts for civil servants in Senegal have been suspended in an effort to limit public spending.
Ministers and their staff can no longer make phone calls but they have until the end of September to receive phone calls.
Exceptions have been made for some people serving in the defence and interior ministries.
The government said more cuts were expected and the savings would reportedly be used for health care, education and other public services.
In a recent speech on modernising the country’s civil service, President Macky Sall said $28m (£23m) had been spent on mobile contracts since he took office in 2012.
