At least five people have been killed in a stampede at a rap concert in the Algerian capital.

Thousands had gathered at a stadium in Algiers to see rapper Abderraouf Derradji, popularly called Soolking, perform when the stampede occurred at one of the entrances.

Twenty-one people injured in the stampede were taken to hospital.

Local media report that of the five young people killed, three were males and two females.

The concert, however, went on and was carried live on an Algerian TV channel.
