Telecel Group has signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations to support the Government’s flagship One Million Coders Programme, a national digital skills initiative launched by President John Mahama in April 2025.

The agreement, signed at the Ministry’s headquarters in Accra, cements Telecel’s commitment to offering free access to its Startocode learning platform to train 100,000 young Ghanaians over the next four years. The partnership is expected to significantly boost Ghana’s digital transformation agenda and expand opportunities for young people in the global digital economy.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, Chief Executive Officer of Telecel Group, Moh Damush, said the initiative represents a transformative step in the company’s mission to drive digital empowerment across Africa.

“We believe aligning with the One Million Coders initiative will help us equip tens of thousands of young people with vital digital and coding skills for Ghana’s growing digital economy. More importantly, it will empower the country to lead the future of the digital ecosystem that is already reshaping Africa,”

Mr. Damush stated.

Startocode, Telecel’s multilingual and self-paced digital learning platform, delivers affordable and inclusive coding education through interactive lessons and hands-on projects. The platform has trained thousands of students across Africa, helping them build practical, job-ready skills in a rapidly evolving tech landscape. Its multilingual features make it accessible to learners in diverse regions, including underserved communities.

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations, Hon. Sam George (MP), welcomed the collaboration, describing it as a decisive step toward closing Ghana’s digital skills gap.

“The One Million Coders Programme is about unlocking digital potential and creating sustainable career pathways for our youth. We are proud to collaborate with forward-thinking partners like Telecel, who share our vision of inclusive digital empowerment,”

Hon. George remarked.

Under the MoU, participants enrolled in the One Million Coders Programme will gain access to Startocode’s full suite of courses, covering web development, Python programming, data analytics, digital entrepreneurship, and other high-demand digital skills. The partnership will also support mentorship opportunities and community engagement initiatives to encourage continuous learning and professional development.

The collaboration reinforces Telecel Group’s broader commitment to corporate social responsibility and sustainability, which focuses on digital inclusion, health development, and environmental protection across its African markets.

The agreement marks another milestone in Ghana’s journey toward building a future-ready, innovation-driven digital economy, ensuring that no Ghanaian youth is left behind in the digital age.
