Member of Parlianment for Ho East Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah has said the Attorney-General is right to explain ongoing prosecution processes to the public, despite concerns from the opposition that such comments damage the reputation of their members.
Speaking in an interview on GTV’s Breakfast Show on Thursday November 20, 2025, the MP said Ghanaians deserve to know what happens in court, especially in cases involving public interest.
He explained that in previous years, the public hardly heard from the Attorney-General, even when major cases were before the courts. However, he noted that the practice changed under the last administration, when officials began speaking to the media after court sittings to clarify rulings and procedures citing former Attorney general Godfrey Yeboah Dame as an example.
According to him, this approach helps the public understand what judges say and why certain decisions are made. He added that there is nothing wrong with the current Attorney-General continuing this practice.
Mr. Bedzrah stressed that the Mahama government came into office with a strong commitment to fight corruption, and many citizens are anxious when they do not see arrests or convictions. For that reason, he said it is important for the Attorney-General to update Ghanaians on the steps involved in prosecution and why certain outcomes may take time.
He argued that explaining the legal process is not an attack on the opposition but part of transparency adding that when it comes to prosecution, you need to go through a process, and he is only telling Ghanaians how that process works,” he said.
Mr. Bedzrah added that in many countries, including the United States, attorneys regularly address the media after court proceedings. He described the practice as the “new normal” and encouraged Ghanaians to see it as a positive step toward accountability and public education.
