Black Stars head coach, Otto Addo has announced the final 23 players selected to represent Ghana at the upcoming Unity Cup 2025 in London. The squad features a mix of seasoned internationals, emerging talents, and home-based players, all aiming to secure victory in the prestigious tournament.
Among the players selected are four home-based talents: Benjamin Asare from Hearts of Oak, Razak Simpson of Nations FC, Kamaradini Mamudu of Medeama SC, and Kwame Opoku from Asante Kotoko. Their inclusion highlights Ghana’s commitment to developing local players and giving them a platform to compete alongside their more experienced counterparts. Additionally, Joseph Tetteh Anang, a former West Ham United goalkeeper now with St. Patrick’s Athletic in Ireland, earns his first call-up, adding depth to the goalkeeping options.
The squad also features standout stars from Ghana’s youth ranks, including Abdul Aziz Issah and Aaron Essel, who impressed at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. Talented players like Caleb Yirenkyi of FC Nordsjaelland and Mohammed Gadafi Fuseini of Union Saint-Gilloise have been named to the team, reflecting the promising future of Ghanaian football.
Returning players such as Abdul Samed Salis from Sunderland, Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht, and Felix Afena-Gyan, who re-joins after nearly two years, bring experience and leadership to the squad.
The team will gather in London this week to begin preparations for the Unity Cup, where they will face tough opponents including Nigeria, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica. Ghana’s first match is against Nigeria at the GTech Community Stadium in West London on May 28, with the aim of securing a spot in the final scheduled for May 31, 2025. The tournament presents a crucial opportunity for the Black Stars to demonstrate their talent and vie for international glory.
