Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has departed Accra to represent Ghana at the investiture ceremony of Guinea’s President-elect, Mamadi Doumbouya, scheduled for today, in Conakry.

Her participation underscores Ghana’s commitment to regional cooperation, democratic governance, and solidarity in West Africa, following Guinea’s recent elections and transition from military rule.

The Vice President’s attendance forms part of broader diplomatic efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and Guinea, building on long-standing historical ties dating back to the post-independence era. These relations were notably strengthened when Ghana’s first President, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, served as Co-President of Guinea after his overthrow in 1966.

Dr. Nkrumah and Guinea’s first President, Ahmed Sékou Touré, were strong advocates of Pan-African unity, a vision that continues to guide relations between Accra and Conakry.

Professor Opoku-Agyemang’s mission symbolizes a renewal of ties at a pivotal moment for the sub-region and reflects Ghana’s continued diplomatic engagement in key West African affairs.

The investiture ceremony, to be held at the Stade Général Lansana Conté in Conakry, is expected to attract several world leaders and high-level dignitaries.

Members of Ghana’s delegation include Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Hon. Alex Segbefia; Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa; and the Vice President’s Spokesperson, Ama Pratt, among other officials.
