Accra- Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, has held discussions with a delegation from the Cape Coast Metropolitan Assembly on an eight-year development plan aimed at transforming the Cape Coast Metropolis.
The delegation, led by the Metropolitan Chief Executive, George Arthur, and comprising the Members of Parliament for Cape Coast North and Cape Coast South, paid a New Year courtesy call on the Vice President and conveyed their goodwill, expressing optimism for renewed strength and clarity as government works to reset the nation.
In a post on her social media page, Professor Opoku-Agyemang disclosed that the delegation presented a comprehensive development roadmap for the metropolis. Key proposals include the refurbishment and full operationalisation of the late President Evans Atta Mills Library, as well as the rehabilitation of the Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital.
She noted that discussions also focused on how government support could help make Cape Coast more vibrant and economically viable, alongside local fundraising initiatives to complement state-led development efforts.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang further underscored the importance of inclusive governance, encouraging the Assembly to actively involve residents of Cape Coast in decision-making to foster a sense of ownership and strengthen public commitment to development initiatives. She also stressed the need to align metropolitan development plans with the broader national development agenda to ensure sustainable growth.
