General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justin Frimpong Kodua says the party amended its constitution to address the challenges that contributed to its defeat in the 2024 General Elections.
Speaking at the launch of the amended constitution on Wednesday, December 3, 2025 at the party Headquarters in Accra, Mr. Kodua explained that member neglect, voter apathy, and weak communication were among the major reasons the party lost power.
He noted that many former party executives felt ignored, which affected their commitment during the elections. To prevent this from happening again, the party has expanded its electoral college to give former executives at both district and national levels the right to vote.
“We all know that one of the reasons why we did not get the needed votes to win the election was voter apathy, and it also stemmed from the fact that several former party executives felt neglected. In our current constitution, we have expanded our electoral college to make room for them to have voting rights,” he said.
Mr. Kodua also accepted that the party’s communication strategy was not strong enough during its time in office, even though the government achieved a lot. He said the lack of coordination among communication directors made it difficult for the public to appreciate the party’s work.
“Many people criticised our communication. We had done so much, but we were not communicating well, and there was no coordination among the various communication directors,” he added.
He stressed that the constitutional changes are meant to strengthen party structures, improve communication, and increase member involvement as the NPP prepares for future elections.
