Security Analyst and Executive Director for Africa Centre for Security and Counterterrorism, Emmanuel Kotin has questioned the fees charged during recruitment processes emphasizing that it places an undue burden on already impoverished job‑seekers.
During an interview on GBC’s Focus show on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, Mr. Kotin urged the government to refund the monies to the thousands of applicants who were charged for the military recruitment exercise.
He questioned why the security agencies have become avenues for economic opportunities when they should be avenues for interest to serve one’s country.
The Security Analyst further suggested that the monies already collected be refunded to the applicants.
“We don’t rip off already unemployed youth because when they enter and get other opportunities, they run away. Go and look at the number of people deserting our security agencies, except that they don’t talk about it.
They get opportunities to travel abroad. You see them serving the Canadian Army, the US Army and the British army. Meanwhile, we have used our scarce resources to give them the rich mental training”, he lamented.
According to him, government has to put these issues in perspective and have a conversation as a country.
