Former Black Stars captain Emmanuel Awuley Quaye passes on

Former Ghana captain Emmanuel Awuley Quaye has died.

Quaye died on Monday, March 25, 2024. The cause of his death is not known yet. 

The legendary defender was an integral figure of the Black Stars team that won the memorable Africa Cup of Nations in 1978. His character, leadership, and passion for the national team inspired many to play like him. 

Quaye was not only a big figure on the national team but also on the local football front, where he played for Ghana Premier League side Accra Great Olympics. In 2023, the defender was recognised by the Sports Writers Association of Ghana( SWAG) for his contribution to football in Ghana. 

Awuley Quaye’s latest passing adds to the soar of Ghana football when it comes to legendary players dying, as players like Christian Atsu, Raphael Dwamena, and the legendary Ernest Papa Arko have all left us in the last few months.
