Benjamin Azamati of Ghana kicked off his men’s 100m race at the World Athletics Championships with a time of 10.30 seconds, finishing sixth in Heat 5. The race featured a competitive field, and Azamati struggled to keep pace in the final metres despite a solid start.
Azamati recorded a reaction time of 0.211 seconds, the slowest among the eight athletes in his heat, which affected his chances. Although his drive phase was steady, it was not enough to catch the faster finishers ahead of him.
Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo dominated the heat with a winning time of 10.07 seconds, earning automatic qualification to the semi-finals. He was joined by Canada’s Andre De Grasse (10.16s) and the USA’s Courtney Lindsey (10.19s), who also secured direct advancement to the next round.
Other notable finishers were Rikkoi Brathwaite from the British Virgin Islands in fourth place (10.23s), Germany’s Lucas Ansah-Peprah in fifth (10.25s), and Brazil’s Erik Cardoso who came seventh (10.32s). The slowest runner in the heat was Dylan Sicobo of Seychelles, finishing in 10.85 seconds.
