Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak have appointed ex-Wydad Athletic Club Technical Director Aboubakar Ouattara as head coach of the club before the resumption of the second half of the 2023–2024 league season.

This was contained in a notice posted on the club’s social media account.

Aboubakar Ouattara, who has vast experience under his belt, takes the place of Dutch gaffer Martinus Koopman, who was shown the exit after 12 weeks (3 months) of his appointment and as a result of a poor run in form.

Following the sacking of Martinus Koopman, assistant coach Rahim Bashiru was given the nod to take over the club as a caretaker manager until the end of the first round of the Ghana Premier League.

The newly appointed Ivorian coach previously had stints with AS Vita Club in Congo, likewise with T.P. Mazembe in the Democratic Republic of Congo, as well as Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, among others.

Aboubakar once worked with Hearts of Oak’s arch rival, Asante Kotoko, in 1999.
