Black Stars defender, Alexander Djiku, has finalized his transfer to Russian giants Spartak Moscow, signing a two-year contract with the club. The 31-year-old centre-back makes the move from Turkish side Fenerbahce, where he spent two seasons after joining on a free transfer from France’s Strasbourg.
Djiku expressed his excitement shortly after his unveiling, saying, “Hi fans. I am happy to be here and join this amazing club.” The move comes with expectations that Djiku’s wealth of experience will play a crucial role for Spartak Moscow in the current Russian Premier League campaign.
During his time at Fenerbahce, Djiku was a key defensive figure, making 51 league appearances and scoring twice over two seasons. He featured consistently last season under manager Jose Mourinho and contributed to a total of 75 appearances across all competitions, adding four goals and two assists to his record before making a rare start this season.
On the international stage, Djiku remains an important player for Ghana’s Black Stars, with 34 caps and three goals since his debut in 2020. Notably, he scored the winning goal in a vital 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Mali, emphasizing his defensive and offensive contributions.
