Atalanta are closing in on a deal to sign Ghanaian and Southampton winger Kamaldeen Sulemana, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. The Serie A club has reportedly submitted an offer close to €17 million, in an attempt to secure the Ghana international’s services.

Romano confirmed that negotiations are in the final stages with Southampton, as Atalanta aims to finalize the transfer this summer.

The Bergamo-based club has already seen a previous bid of around €14 million rejected by Southampton. With their latest bid, Atalanta hopes to persuade the Saints to part ways with Sulemana, who has attracted interest from multiple clubs.

The Italian side is eager to bolster their attacking options and see Sulemana as a valuable addition to their squad for the upcoming season.

Sulemana’s time at Southampton has been a rollercoaster since his arrival in January 2023. Initially signed for a hefty transfer fee, he struggled to meet expectations but showed significant improvement last season.

The Ghanaian winger became one of Southampton’s standout players, despite the team’s struggles. Southampton was ultimately relegated after finishing bottom of the Premier League table with only 12 points and just two wins from their 38 matches.

During the 2024-25 campaign, Sulemana scored once and provided one assist in 26 league appearances. Across all competitions, he made a total of 30 appearances, scored twice, and registered three assists, showcasing his potential as an attacking talent. His contract with Southampton runs until the summer of 2027 and former Saints manager Ivan Juric, now at Atalanta, is keen to reunite with him.

With Atalanta’s final bid on the table, the move appears to be edging closer to completion. Sulemana’s potential transfer could reunite him with Juric, who has expressed a desire to work with the talented winger again. Southampton’s relegation and the player’s contract situation may give the Italian club the opportunity they need to bring Sulemana to Serie A, where he could develop further and make an impact.
