The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has settled the outstanding allowances owed to the Ghana Black Queens ahead of their final group match against Tanzania in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). The payment comes as a timely boost to the team’s morale as they prepare to fight for qualification in the tournament.

Ghana’s Ambassador to Morocco, Charity Gbedawo, revealed that the players had experienced delays in receiving their finances, which had caused some challenges. “They had a few challenges along the way, their finances were delayed a bit. But to the glory of God, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, facilitated the quick release of the money, and they have been sorted out,” she told Joy Sports.

Her Excellency Gbedawo expressed optimism that the payment would inspire the Black Queens ahead of their critical match on Monday. “Their morale has gone up, so on this note, I believe that they are going to make Ghana proud. I know they will score (win) so that they move on (qualify) to the next game,” she added.

Currently, Ghana sits at the bottom of Group C after two matches, having lost 2-0 to South Africa and drawn 1-1 with Mali. The Black Queens will need a convincing win against Tanzania and hope for a favorable result in the South Africa vs. Mali game to advance to the knockout stages.
