The Black Queens held their first training session in Ismailia, Egypt, on Monday, October 20, 2025 as they ramped up preparations for the critical 2026 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifier against the host nation.

Eighteen players took part in the initial session led by Head Coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren and his technical team, signaling the start of focused efforts to secure qualification.

The training focused primarily on light recovery exercises, ball control drills, and tactical adjustments designed to help the team acclimate to the weather and pitch conditions in Ismailia. The coaching staff carefully structured the session to promote player fitness while avoiding undue strain ahead of the challenging fixture.

Coach Bjorkegren expressed satisfaction with the players’ work ethic and focus. “The energy and concentration were good. Everyone understands the importance of this match,” he commented after the session, highlighting the strong commitment within the squad.

Additional squad members are expected to arrive shortly, completing the full roster ahead of the final training session set for Wednesday. This full complement will allow the coaching staff to fine-tune set pieces and tactical plays vital for success against Egypt.

Ghana will play the first leg of the qualifier on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Ismailia–Suez Canal Stadium. The return leg is scheduled for October 28 at the Accra Sports Stadium, where the Black Queens aim to secure their advancement to the 2026 WAFCON tournament on home soil.
