Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has announced his 24-woman squad ahead of the crucial Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Qualifiers against Egypt.
The final round of the qualifiers will determine Ghana’s place in next year’s tournament scheduled to take place in Morocco.
Ghana is set to face Egypt in a two-legged tie as part of the qualification process.
The first leg will be played on Thursday, October 23, while the return match is slated for October 28 in Accra. The outcome of these fixtures is pivotal as both teams compete to secure a berth at the continental tournament.
Bjorkegren’s squad features a combination of experienced players and fresh talent. Notably, two former Black Princesses, Sharon Sampson and Helen Alormenu, have been called up for the first time to the senior team.
Sampson, who currently plays for Swedish club Pitea, returns to the national setup after her participation in the 2023 U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica. Alormenu, a key figure at Texas State University, is making her maiden appearance with the Black Queens.

The core of the team remains largely unchanged from the group that represented Ghana at the 2024 WAFCON finals in Morocco earlier this year. Veteran captain Portia Boakye will lead the side, providing leadership and experience on and off the pitch.
Goalkeeping options remain steady with Bjorkegren retaining Cynthia Konlan, Kerrie McCarthy, and Afi Amenyeku in the squad.
As the Black Queens prepare for this high-stakes qualifier, focus will be on blending youth and experience to overcome the North African challenge and secure qualification for the prestigious tournament in Morocco.
