Ghana’s National Youth Amateur Boxing team, known as the Black Rockets, has departed for Conakry, Guinea, to participate in the highly anticipated Africa Youth Boxing Championship, scheduled from 17 to 25 May 2025. The prestigious continental event will bring together young boxing talents from across Africa to compete and showcase their skills on an international stage.

The team’s participation marks an important step in promoting Ghana’s presence in youth boxing and inspiring future generations of athletes.

The squad comprises three promising boxers—Mathias Ashitey, Desmond Pappoe, and George Dowuona—who have undergone rigorous training in preparation for the competition. They aim to bring glory to Ghana through their dedication and skill.

Coach Martey, who has been instrumental in refining their techniques and preparing them mentally and physically, accompanies the team.

Leading the delegation is Alhaji Dauda Fuseini, First Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF). His leadership and support are expected to motivate the young boxers and ensure they receive the necessary resources and encouragement to perform at their best. His presence also underscores the GBF’s commitment to youth development and nurturing emerging talent.

Also joining the team is George Lamptey, immediate past president of the GBF and a member of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) Board. He will serve as one of the International Technical Officials (ITOs) at the championship. Lamptey’s experience in boxing administration and officiating will contribute to the smooth and fair running of the tournament.
