German Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund have selected Ghana as the home of its first official International Academy in Africa, with operations set to begin in February 2026.
The BVB International Academy Ghana will offer a structured youth football development program for boys and girls aged 6 to 18, and will combine elite and recreational pathways under Dortmund’s global academy model. The initiative aims to identify and nurture young talent and to enhance education and personal development.
According to the club, the academy will operate under Borussia Dortmund’s renowned football philosophy with focus on high-performance training standards, modern coaching methods and holistic player development both on and off the pitch.
The launch is a significant milestone for Dortmund’s international expansion and underscores Ghana’s growing reputation as a hub for football talent in Africa. Ghana has produced numerous players who have excelled in top European leagues and this makes it a strategic location for the club’s first African academy.
Club officials said the academy will also prioritize coach education and community engagement. It also aims at contributing the long-term development of football in Ghana.
Borussia Dortmund joins a growing list of European clubs establishing development academies in Africa. This reflects the increasing global competition for young talent and investment in grassroots football development.
