Botswana has made history by becoming the first African country to win the men’s 4x400m relay title at the World Athletics Championships. The team ran an impressive 2:57.76 to claim the gold medal in a thrilling race held under pouring rain.
The dramatic finish saw Botswana’s anchor, Collen Kebinatshipi, overtake the USA’s Rai Benjamin in the final stretch. The United States team finished very close behind in second place with a time of 2:57.83, while South Africa secured the bronze, also clocking 2:57.83.
This landmark victory for Botswana marks a significant achievement in African athletics, showcasing the continent’s growing strength in sprinting events traditionally dominated by teams from the USA and Europe.
Despite the challenging weather conditions, the Botswana relay squad delivered a powerful and determined performance, thrilling fans and inspiring athletes across Africa.
