Ghana shines at 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships with 69 medals

Team Ghana concluded its impressive performance at the 2025 Africa Aquatics Zone 2 Championships, held over three days at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra, securing a total of 69 medals.

The host nation showcased strength in both junior and senior categories, thrilling local fans with its achievement.

In the Junior category, Ghana’s 12-member team finished second overall with 31 medals, narrowly behind Senegal’s 43 medals, including 11 golds. 

Nigeria took third place with 32 medals. Standout junior swimmers included Ghana’s Lea El Haj, who won five medals with three golds, and Jada Yankey, who earned 11 medals, including two golds.

However, the Best Female Junior Swimmer honor went to Benin’s Lonnah Eliane Douillet, who won seven medals, six of which were gold.

Among the junior male swimmers, Nigeria’s Aidan Dumuje-Abilli topped the chart with eight medals, six of them gold.

Senegal’s Nael Lamine Vision was second with seven medals, and Ghana’s Kal-El Ntiamoah placed third after earning five medals, including two golds, highlighting Ghana’s strong junior male presence.

In the senior division, Ghana emerged as the best team, collecting 26 medals comprising 13 gold, seven silver, and six bronze.

Senegal finished second with 36 medals, including 12 golds, while Benin took third with eight medals.

Ghana’s Joselle Mensah made a mark with five medals, including three gold, closely trailing Senegal’s Oumy Diop, who won the Best Female Senior Swimmer award with 11 medals, nine of them gold.

Harry Stacey of Ghana was named Best Male Senior Swimmer after winning six medals, five of which were gold.

He was followed by Benin’s Alexis Kpade and Ghana’s Abeku Jackson, each securing multiple medals with impressive gold counts.

The championships highlighted Ghana’s growing dominance in African aquatics and set a high standard for future competitions.
