The World Cup qualification group stage is winding down at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and as it does, the scenarios for the qualifier round are coming into focus.

Here is what needs to happen for Ghana to advance from their group and book a ticket to the 2026 World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

Comoros became the first team in Group I to win their first two matches, beating the Central African Republic and Ghana respectfully.

The matches in the group will be played in a home and away format, which gives every country a chance of securing a qualification to the next World Cup.

With this format, only two teams will be granted automatic qualification, and those are the first and second teams from the group stages.

As the euphoria of Ghanaians towards the stars heads to the brink of engaging in mathematics to find the number of points they need to secure a slot at the World Cup considering the first two games, Ghana still has a chance of qualifying.

With eight games still ahead in the qualifiers, the West African nation has ample opportunities to turn the tide and enhance their chances of earning a spot on the global stage in 2026.

They will need at least five wins out of eight to qualify for the World Cup. The upcoming matches will prove crucial for the Black Stars as they strive to rebound from this unsettling start and secure their place in the highly anticipated 2026 World Cup.
