Ghana’s Black Rockets Youth Boxing Team has achieved remarkable success at the Africa Youth Boxing Championship held in Conakry, Guinea, winning three gold medals. The team’s impressive performance highlights the growing strength and talent of Ghanaian youth boxing on the continental stage. The athletes displayed exceptional skill and determination, bringing pride to their country through their outstanding achievements.
The highlight of the tournament was Desmond Pappoe’s dramatic victory in the Men’s Middleweight-75Kg category. Pappoe secured Ghana’s third gold medal by knocking out his South African opponent, Mighty Sangoni, in the second round. His decisive win not only earned him the medal but also showcased Ghana’s rising prominence in the sport of boxing among youth competitors across Africa.
Prior to Pappoe’s victory, the Black Rockets had already secured two gold medals from their other talented boxers. Mathias Ashitey triumphed in the Flyweight-51Kg category, while George Dowouna claimed the top spot in the Bantamweight-54Kg division. Their wins contributed to Ghana’s strong overall performance and demonstrated the depth of talent within the national youth boxing team.
The excellent results at the championship suggest a bright future for Ghanaian amateur boxing. The Black Rockets’ success reaffirms Ghana’s position as a breeding ground for world-class boxing talent and indicates promising prospects for the country’s elite amateur team, the Black Bombers.
