The 2025/26 Ghana Premier League (GPL), season began with intense matches across the country from Friday to Sunday, September 12–14, 2025.
The opening fixtures delivered a mix of dramatic comebacks, hard-fought victories, and frustrating draws for several teams, as supporters returned to stadiums with high expectations.
Hearts of Oak were held to a goalless draw by newly promoted Hohoe United at the Accra Sports Stadium, marking a frustrating start for the Phobians. The match was a tightly contested affair with few clear chances, leaving Hearts unable to break down the resilient defense of Hohoe United.
Similarly, Vision FC and FC Samartex played out a 0-0 stalemate at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex, with Vision playing the last 15 minutes with ten men but still maintaining control of possession.
Reigning champions Bibiani GoldStars launched their title defense in style with a 2-1 victory over Bechem United at Dun’s Park. Meanwhile, Kotoko ended a 15-year winless streak against Chelsea with a late 1-0 winner delivered by Albert Amoah in a tightly contested match.
Other notable results included Nations FC’s dramatic 2-1 comeback against newly promoted Swedru All Blacks at the Kwame Kyei Sports Complex and Medeama SC’s solid 2-0 win over Young Apostles at Nana Agyemang Badu Park.
Karela United made an immediate statement by scoring inside the opening minute to defeat Aduana FC 1-0 in Tamale, while Heart of Lions captain Ebenezer Abban converted a crucial first-half penalty to secure a 1-0 win against Dreams FC in Kpando.
The new season promises exciting football as teams look to build momentum from their opening games.
