Accra Hearts of Oak and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) have reported what they describe as false and malicious allegations concerning goalkeeper Benjamin Asare to the Ghana Police Service.
In an official statement dated 28 March 2026, Hearts of Oak dismissed the claims as “entirely false, misleading, and defamatory,” and confirmed that the goalkeeper, who is currently with the Black Stars, is in good condition and unaffected by the reports.
The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo, said the GFA acted promptly after becoming aware of the viral content. In a Facebook post, he stated that the Association engaged the Ghana Police Service “within minutes” of encountering what he described as a “heartless, hurtful and malicious fake post.”
According to the GFA, both the Association and Hearts of Oak are aligned in their response, with the matter now under active police investigation.
Authorities are pursuing those responsible for creating and circulating the content as part of efforts to curb misinformation and protect the integrity of players and the game.
Mr Addo further clarified that the ongoing police action does not prevent any additional legal steps that Benjamin Asare may choose to take personally, leaving open the possibility of civil proceedings against those involved.
While both Hearts of Oak and the GFA have firmly dismissed the circulating claims as false and defamatory, neither institution has disclosed the exact nature of the allegations.
Officials say their priority remains protecting the reputation of Benjamin Asare while ensuring those responsible are held accountable through legal processes.
