Asante Kotoko claimed their 10th MTN FA Cup trophy by defeating Division One side Golden Kick FC 2-1 on Sunday, June 15, 2025, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium. The victory not only adds to their illustrious history but also guarantees their return to continental competition in the CAF Confederation Cup for the 2025/26 season.

The Porcupine Warriors started the match with intense energy and took an early lead in the 16th minute. Kwame Opoku, the team’s prolific striker, headed home a well-placed free kick from Albert Amoah, giving Kotoko the advantage and setting the tone for the game. Despite Kotoko’s dominance in the first half, Golden Kick fought back resiliently, leveling the score late in the match to create a tense finish.

Golden Kick’s equalizer came when Bless Ege scored a brilliant free kick to bring his side back on level terms. The game intensified as both sides pressed for a winning goal, but it was Kotoko who ultimately found the back of the net in the final moments. Deep into stoppage time, a controversial penalty was awarded after a challenge in the box, allowing Kwame Opoku to step up and score his second goal of the match.

The decisive spot-kick ignited wild celebrations among Kotoko fans, as the referee’s decision sealed their victory and their first FA Cup win since 2017. Golden Kick, who impressed many by reaching the final from the lower divisions, fell just short of completing an underdog fairy tale — but earned widespread respect for their spirited run.
