The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has appointed Ghanaian coach Laryea Kingston as the new head coach of all Uganda naional men’s football junior teams on a two-year contract.
The announcement was made on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 by FUFA CEO Edgar Watson in Kampala, underscoring the federation’s commitment to youth football development in the country.
The former Ghana international player, brings a wealth of experience and technical know-how with his UEFA A and CAF B coaching licenses.
Before joining FUFA, he managed the Ghana U17 national team and contributed significantly at FC Nordsjaelland in Denmark, where he was involved in the renowned Right to Dream Academy, a well-regarded institution for nurturing young African football talent.
He takes over the role from fellow Ghanaian coach Samuel Kwesi Fabin, who had previously overseen Uganda’s U17 and U20 sides back in 2019.
Kingston’s appointment is seen as a continuation of FUFA’s strategy to rely on Ghanaian coaches to lead the structured development of Uganda’s youth football programs.
While Kingston assumes overall command of the junior teams, Brian Ssenyondo will continue as head coach of the Uganda U17 team as they prepare for the upcoming FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar next month.
Ssenyondo has announced that the tournament will be his last at the U17 level, but he remains open to future coaching roles within the national framework.
Kingston’s presence is expected to bring fresh energy and a modern tactical approach to Uganda’s junior teams, aligning with FUFA’s long-term vision of developing world-class football talent in the country.
His appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Ugandan youth football on the international stage.
