Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has praised the University for Development Studies (UDS) after their historic victory in the 2025 FISU World University Football Cup.
The Tamale-based university secured a thrilling 2-1 win against Brazil’s Paulista University in the men’s final held on Sunday, dethroning the defending champions.
UDS showcased resilience by coming from behind to claim the title late in the match. Their performance on the global stage has brought pride not only to their institution but also to Ghana and the African continent as a whole. The victory marks a significant achievement for the university and Ghanaian football.

In response to the win, Sports Minister Kofi Adams took to Facebook to congratulate the team and coach Ibrahim Tanko. “Congratulations UDS. Congratulations coach Tanko, you promised and you have delivered. You represented Ghana and Africa well. Congratulations, Congratulations, Congratulations,” Kofi Adams wrote.
The triumph has drawn widespread admiration from Ghanaians, who have taken to social media to celebrate the university team’s accomplishment. Many citizens feel inspired by how UDS has elevated Ghana’s status on the international university sports scene through their outstanding football display.
