Nigeria’s Super Falcons have further cemented their legacy by winning the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and claiming a record-breaking $1 million prize.

The thrilling final took place on July 26, 2025, at Rabat’s Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where Nigeria edged past hosts Morocco in a high-stakes 3-2 encounter.

This victory secured their 10th WAFCON championship, reinforcing their position as Africa’s most decorated women’s national football team.

The match offered a captivating spectacle, with Morocco initially taking the lead and applying strong pressure on the Falcons. However, Nigeria staged a remarkable comeback in the second half, culminating in a standout moment in the 88th minute.

Significantly, the $1 million prize pot awarded to the champions represents a 100% increase compared to the previous tournament.

This landmark boost underscores the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) renewed dedication to elevating women’s football by providing enhanced financial incentives, which help recognize the talent and hard work of female athletes across Africa.

This plan of increase funding is part of a broader initiative of CAF to improve remuneration and working conditions for female players, coaches and football staff.

This signals the dawning of a new era of investment and respect for women’s football on the continent, promising exciting growth and increased professionalism in the years ahead.
