Nottingham Forest have parted ways with head coach Ange Postecoglou after only eight games and 39 days at the City Ground. The Australian boss took over from Nuno Espirito Santo in September, shortly after the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
However, a series of poor results has forced the Midlands club to begin their search for a third manager this campaign. During Postecoglou’s short tenure, Forest failed to register a single win, losing six matches and drawing twice.
The setbacks included four Premier League defeats, starting with a 3-0 loss at Arsenal and followed by home defeats to Sunderland (1-0) and Chelsea (3-0), as well as a 2-0 loss at Newcastle United.
These results, coupled with an early exit from the Carabao Cup after a 3-2 defeat to Championship side Swansea City, intensified pressure on the team and management.
The situation worsened with a disappointing 3-2 home defeat to FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League, marking their second group stage loss. This result appeared to be the tipping point for club owner Evangelos Marinakis, who decided to relieve Postecoglou of his duties immediately.
Nottingham Forest confirmed the move in an official statement on X, citing “a series of disappointing results and performances.”
Postecoglou arrived at Forest on the back of leading Tottenham Hotspur to Europa League glory last season, ending the club’s 17-year wait for major silverware.
Despite that success, his promising start with Forest, including a 2-2 draw against Real Betis in Europe, was quickly undone by a damaging four-match losing streak that included defeats to Sunderland, Midtjylland, Newcastle, and Chelsea.
Nottingham Forest, after finishing an impressive seventh last season, now find themselves perilously close to the Premier League relegation zone in 17th place.
With the season still in its early stages, the club faces a crucial period as they seek new leadership to steer them away from danger.
