The 2025 WAFU B Women’s Champions League kicked off with an intense encounter as Police Ladies faced Nigeria’s Bayelsa Queens. Despite a valiant effort, Police Ladies were defeated 2-1 in their opening match, setting a challenging tone for their campaign.

Bayelsa Queens began the game with high intensity and sharp attacking play, quickly putting pressure on the Police Ladies’ defense. Their efforts paid off early when Shakirat Moshood struck in the 12th minute to give the Nigerian side an early lead. Bayelsa Queens maintained control and held their advantage through the remainder of the first half.

The Nigerian side extended their lead shortly after the break when Emem Essien doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute, leaving Police Ladies facing an uphill battle. The goal came as a result of persistent offensive pressure and effective teamwork from Bayelsa Queens.

Police Ladies responded with determination and managed to pull a goal back in the 67th minute, thanks to striker Mary Berko. Berko’s goal sparked hope and injected renewed energy into the team’s play as they pushed for an equalizer.

Despite their efforts to level the score, Police Ladies could not overcome the resilient Bayelsa defense. The match ended 2-1 in favor of Bayelsa Queens, who take an important early victory in the tournament.
