Senegal national team head coach Pape Thiaw has rejected an online fundraiser launched to help him pay a $100,000 fine imposed by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), urging supporters to redirect the money to urgent social causes instead.

In a public message to fans, Thiaw thanked supporters for their solidarity but made it clear he did not want financial assistance.

“People of Senegal, my family, your solidarity since the announcement of the sanctions has touched me deeply,” he wrote. “However, I humbly ask you not to organise fundraisers in my name. I invite you to redirect these funds to more urgent causes, for the benefit of those who truly need them.”

His response quickly gained traction online, with many praising the coach’s humility and sense of responsibility. Some described the move as “inspired by his humanity”, while others highlighted national unity, applauding him for putting community needs ahead of personal concerns.

CAF fined Thiaw $100,000 and imposed a five-match suspension following disciplinary action linked to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final. The governing body cited unsporting conduct and behaviour that brought the game into disrepute.

The sanctions formed part of a broader crackdown after chaotic scenes surrounding the final, which also led to fines and suspensions for officials and players from both Senegal and Morocco. The decisions have sparked debate across African football over discipline standards and consistency in enforcement.

The episode follows Senegal’s 2025 AFCON triumph, secured with a dramatic 1–0 victory after extra time, with celebrations quickly giving way to disciplinary fallout.
