The Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, has encouraged young footballers to shun the use of drugs and focus on training, stating that substance abuse can ruin promising careers.
He made this statement while interacting with players at the ongoing Inter-District Juvenile Championship in Ho.
Over 500 U-15 and U-17 footballers from the Volta and Oti Regions are taking part in this week-long tournament, which began on Monday, July 7, 2025, and will conclude on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Regional Minister who is dedicated to the development of sports in the Volta Region, noted that football is a unifying force for development and progress.
He expressed his commitment to ensuring its evolution, recalling that he initiated the Regional Ministers Cup during his first week in office.
The first gentleman of the region promised to award the top team with footballs and jerseys at the end of the tournament.
Chairman of the Volta Regional Football Association (VRFA), Mr. Daniel Agbogah, encouraged players to be of good behavior while exhibiting their talents, which is the primary purpose of their participation in the tournament.
He added that this years tournament is an improved version of last year’s edition and mentioned that the players selection will be fair and based on performance.
He also commended the various District FA leadership for organizing thier team to participate in the tournament.
Fifteen out of twenty-two districts are currently participating in the tournament together with twelve (12) Catch Them Young Referees under the GFA Catch Them Young Referees Policy.

Present at the event was the Secretary of the Regional FA, Promise Michael Ahiagba, Regional Executive Council members, and all District FA chairpersons.
The Inter-District Juvenile Championship provides a valuable platform for players to showcase their skills and be considered for selection in regional championships and national teams.
