Upon receiving the National Sports Authority employment data on Tuesday, 24 February, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, wrote to the Ministry of Finance seeking clearance to absorb 17 recruits and employ more than 400 critically needed staff for the Authority.
The move follows the Minister’s request for full employment data and emoluments for the 17 individuals, as well as the Authority’s staff base, for evaluation after a crunch meeting on Monday with the board and management of the National Sports Authority.
The action is expected to bring an end to an ongoing tussle between the two-month-old NSA board and its Director-General, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, over the alleged irregular recruitment of 17 persons last year.
The board had earlier ordered the revocation of the appointments, citing violations of recruitment procedures, and set a deadline of 6 February 2026 for compliance during a three-day out-of-office retreat in Ada.
However, the three-day strategic retreat was intended to serve as a critical session to overhaul the Authority, restore public confidence, strengthen governance, and review recruitment procedures.
On February 23, 2026, the Sports Minister debunked a publication by Myjoyonline which claimed he had directed the NSA Director-General to revoke the appointments. He described the report as untrue.
Following the report submitted by the NSA, and as clarified to GBC Online on Tuesday, the Minister has now formally written to the Ministry of Finance seeking clearance to regularise the recruitment of the 17 staff and to employ more than 400 additional personnel needed by the Authority.
