The 2025 President’s Cup at the Accra Sports Stadium has emerged as a landmark event under the leadership of Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, who has successfully orchestrated a record-breaking turnout that filled the stadium to capacity.
This achievement not only signals a revival of public enthusiasm for domestic football but also exemplifies a new model of sports event management in Ghana, characterized by innovation, strategic partnerships and financial independence from government funding.

Unlike the 2023 edition of the President’s Cup, which struggled to attract more than 5,000 spectators amid waning public interest, the 2025 event demonstrated a dramatic turn around.
Mr. Kofi Adams spearheaded a collaborative framework involving the Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) and established a dedicated Fundraising Committee chaired by Dr Tony Aubynn and Bola Ray.
This committee secured resources exclusively through public-private partnerships, enabling the event to be delivered without a single cedi from government coffers, a pioneering move that underscores Mr Adams’ belief in the commercial viability and self-sustainability of Ghanaian sports.

Central to the event’s success was the Minister’s focus on unifying major supporters’ groups under one umbrella, fostering a vibrant and cohesive fan atmosphere.
He also launched a comprehensive media campaign, leveraging social media rivalry between the Ashanti and Greater Accra regions to heighten anticipation.
The entertainment segment was elevated by the voluntary participation of renowned artist Shatta Wale, who personally funded the performance logistics, alongside supporting acts by Kwaku Smoke and Camidoh, thus enriching the overall match-day experience beyond the football pitch.

In addition to the spectacle, Mr. Adams has maintained a strong commitment to infrastructure quality and sustainability. Since his appointment in February 2025, he has overseen a dedicated taskforce for the maintenance of the Accra Sports Stadium pitch and implemented renovations to meet CAF and FIFA standards.
His attention to detail was evident in the strategic placement of the performance stage behind the goalposts to protect the playing surface, reflecting a holistic approach to facility management that balances entertainment with sports integrity.

This milestone event builds on the momentum generated by Ghana’s emphatic 5-0 victory over Chad earlier in the year, collectively signaling a resurgence in Ghanaian sports under Kofi Adams’ leadership.
His innovative approach marked by strategic stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization and fan-centric programming has not only restored public confidence but also laid a sustainable foundation for the future growth and self-reliance of the nation’s sports sector.
