Tiger Woods claims he endured “one of the worst weeks” he’s ever had with regards to his putting at the weekend’s Genesis Open.
Woods, who turned professional in 1996, finished eight shots behind eventual winner J.B. Holmes in a field of 144 players at the Riviera Country Club in California.
The tournament was plagued with poor weather, but the event finally ended late on Sunday with the 14-time Major winner carding a a final-round 72 to secure his T-15 finish.
Despite his respectable placing, the 43-year-old was far from happy with his performance and believes he was close to challenging for the victory over the course of the weekend.
‘I got tired; there’s no doubt,’ Woods said.
‘It was just a long week, and eventually I made a few bad swings.
‘But to be honest with you, it was one of the worst weeks I’ve ever had on the greens.
‘Six 3-putts is – I don’t think I’ve ever done that. And to have that many 3-putts and still shoot 6 under par – take away those 3-putts, I’m 12 under par.
And if I make a few more putts, I’m right in the mix. ‘So I just have to clean up my mess on the greens and be ready for Thursday.’ Woods’ next appearance is at this weekend’s WGC-Mexico Championship which is set to begin on Thursday.
